HMRC has issued a warning about fake tax refund offers that could trick people who have recently submitted their tax return. HMRC's chief security officer, said if taxpayers come across suspicious emails or scam calls, they should report them to HMRC. Best of luck with that.

The Public Accounts Committee criticised HMRC saying customer service levels are at an "all-time low". Taxpayers are being short-changed by the service. HMRC said it is making "strong progress" in improving customer service. The bar is so low they are liable to trip over it.

Having trouble getting through? The Public Accounts Committee of Parliament has noted that MPs, some civil servants and other high-profile figures are having their calls to HMRC answered up to 12 times faster than the general public because they are able to access a “VIP” hotline

In response to a “complaint” that excessive requirements for personal guarantees were a “straitjacket” on business growth. The FCA said it only looks at how it affected small traders, most business lending was outside its remit. A no-can-do regulator is like an ash-tray on a bike

The OBR predicts that inflation will fall below 2% this year, from the current level of 4%. Difficult not to call that good news.

In Kent, Gulf-owned P & O Ferries sack just abut everybody & employ cheaper foreign labour in what seemed to be a total ignoring of UK employment law, & now Pfizer is facing accusations of betraying its former workers in the UK by failing to raise pensions in line with inflation.

I’m all right, Jack. Sir Keir Starmer warned in the financial pages of the Sun that taxes would go up under Labour. However, he vowed to protect Britain's hardest workers, so you and I are OK.

Despite many firms pushing staff to return to their desks, a poll of CEOs shows that just 7% of corporate leaders go into the office full time.

I am not sure exactly what normative determinism is, but I wish McDonalds new chief restaurant officer Zoe Hamburger all the best in her new job.

It is amazing how many people make voluntary donations to support the Government. The Government is projected to collect £7.5bn from Inheritance Tax (IHT) this year, a 25% increase in just three years.

I heard on the radio this morning that just two slices a ham a day (or sausages or bacon) increases your chances of getting diabetes by 15%. Taking no chances with breakfast this morning, I reached for the pop-tarts….

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) has urged Rachel Reeves to reduce the amount that pensioners can withdraw from their pension pots tax-free. They just can’t resist tinkering, and it could cost you money, so please do what you can while you can.

The HMRC IR35 debacle continues with the news that if loopholes in worker status rules aren’t closed, Labour’s new protections will only incentivise businesses to take people on as self-employed contractors, temps or agency workers rather than as employees.

Despite the recent decision by Italy to double its flat tax on the foreign income of rich expats to €200,000 a year, advisers say wealthy Europeans still want to relocate to the country. Well, they can’t relocate to the UK ‘cause we’re abolishing our flat rate. Mama Mia!

More than 2m individuals are expected to pay tax on their savings this year, many may be unaware of their tax liabilities until they receive a notification from HMRC. There is no clear solution (take advice!) but utilising cash ISAs to shield savings may be a good place to start
