A mention to the junior debaters who judged the Provost’s debates in the council chambers. The debates involved all 24 primary schools in the council chambers and were chaired by Provost Montague. All teams had top class debaters and all debates were very close. @mearnscastlehs

This week 3 Mearns junior teams debated a motion on closing the Scottish Parliament in the 1st round of the Glasgow Bar competition. Congratulations to Seerat, Mairi, Tia, Harry, Femke and Miriam who all qualified for the semi-final at the end of the month Mearns Castle High School

A great first day’s debating at the European Youth Parliament National Forum in Liverpool Hope University. The MCHS team debated European themed resolutions with schools from across the UK. More debating tomorrow. Mearns Castle High School

The European Youth Parliament UK national forum concluded on Sunday with more debates on a European theme. The pupils selected for the international sessions will be decided later. But the MCHS team were a huge credit to the school throughout the entire weekend. Mearns Castle High School

A mention to the MCHS debaters who competed against the best senior debaters in the country at the St Andrews Union competition on Saturday. Mearns Castle had some of the youngest debaters present. A huge mention also to Maisie (S6) who reached the Gold Final. Mearns Castle High School

The senior debaters competed at the GUU competition on Monday. A mention to Sam, Lexie, Sophie and Maisie who all reached the Silver final. A special mention also to Jessica and Ella who were 2nd on the team tab and reached the Gold Final. Mearns Castle High School

5 teams competed at the Edinburgh Juniors competition on Saturday. Congratulations to Becky and Eva and to Fawwaz and Will (all S3) who reached the Gold final. A mention also to Becky who was 1st on the speaker tab. A fantastic achievement. Mearns Castle High School

A mention also to Tia and Harry (S2) who reached the Silver final and to Risha and Nithya (S3) who reached the Novice final and to Miriam and Femke (S2) who won the novice final. A very successful day for the junior debaters in Edinburgh. Mearns Castle High School

A great day for the debaters at the Cambridge Union regional heat on Sunday 10th at Stewart’s Melville College. A special mention to Maisie & Sophie (S6) who finished 2nd on the tab. Both debaters will now contest finals day at the Cambridge Union next year. Mearns Castle High School

The Junior Debaters competed at the International Competition for Young Debaters heat in Edinburgh on Sun 19th. All 5 teams achieved 1st places during the day. A mention to Sam & Lexie (S4) who qualified first and will now contest Finals Day in Cambridge in May Mearns Castle High School

2 MCHS teams competed in the European Youth Parliament regional session in Strathclyde Union on Monday. Both teams debated to a very high level. Many congratulations to the S4 team who were selected and will contest the national session in Liverpool in August. Mearns Castle High School

On 22nd March Maisie and Sophie (S6) competed at the Cambridge Union Finals Day. Both girls debated to a very high level against some of the best debaters from the UK and overseas and scored a first in the early rounds. Another great achievement for the team. Mearns Castle High School

A big mention to the four MCHS teams who competed at the Durham Union schools competition last weekend. Every team scored 1sts and 2nds in the early rounds and can be very proud of their performance against the strongest schools in the UK. Mearns Castle High School

A huge mention to Sam and Lexie (S4) who competed at the International Competition for Young Debaters Finals Day on Sat 3rd May at the Cambridge Union. The team put in a fantastic performance against the best debaters from around the world. A huge achievement. Mearns Castle High School
