Databases see isolated queries. AI agents execute multi-step tasks with feedback and retries. Building on recent agentic DB discussions (h/t Andy Pavlo (@andypavlo.bsky.social)), I call this gap execution blindness. noodata.substack.com/p/postgresql-a…

Can your cloud database predict underprovisioning before it even happens? Meet ◒ xBound, the very first framework for join size lower bounds. xBound tells you how many tuples your SQL query will produce *at least*. Brought to you by Microsoft GSL & UTN Data Systems.

PostgreSQL has long powered core OpenAI products like ChatGPT and the API. Over the past year, our production load grew 10× and keeps rising. Today we run a single primary with nearly 50 read replicas in production, delivering low double-digit millisecond p99 client-side

Postgres as data platform: make heterogeneity a first-class engine property—SLA-aware planning, pluggable execution, and machine-readable feedback (visibility, degradations, sources). Otherwise it's just storage+glue. noodata.substack.com/p/postgres-as-… #PostgreSQL

When I realized we were shipping 200+ distinct versions of Intercom a day, I thought, we should tell people. Fortunately, Danny Fallon was easily convinced and wrote up the blog on why we put a lot of effort into making shipping fast, easy, and safe. Here’s the link:

AI can write code fast, but it can’t guarantee clarity, correctness, or maintainability. In the age of AI-assisted coding, code quality matters more than ever. Here’s why good code is still the foundation of great software 👇 thoughtworks.com/insights/blog/…

The Art of Writing Efficient Programs, by Fedor Pikus, is one of those rare books that make you feel smarter after reading it. Highly recommend.

Everything we're doing to make codebases "agent-ready" (better docs, less dead code, smaller surfaces) engineers always needed too. Agents just have zero tolerance for the entropy humans learned to work around. They can't "just know" a file is outdated or a code path is dead.

pg_ash is out Postgres has no session history. When something was slow an hour ago, there's nothing to look at. pg_ash fixes that -- pure SQL, one file install, works on RDS/Cloud SQL/Supabase/self-hosted, anywhere where you have pg_stat_statements and pg_cron. No extension,

If you’re not treating software development as an scientific discipline, with experiments, feedback loops, and measurable outcomes, then you’re not a software engineer…
