In another time this would’ve been a no-brainer. Right now this is an excerpt publishers don’t want to give out and (I found) media don’t want to carry. Seema Chishti always explicitly asks: give me bits no one else will touch. That’s what makes The Wire so essential. Siddharth

India’s Marxist historians were the first to question both colonial and nationalist assumptions about India’s history. Their scholarship is relevant even today, especially when we tend to confuse history writing with storytelling about kings and empires! jacobin.com/2025/07/kosamb…

When the state & courts align with maj. morality, India’s consti. promise of individual liberty remains trapped. Indian consti. was meant as a transformative doc. to democratise public & pvt. life. But the courts & state insts. continue to hollow out that potential. by Swarati

If you are curious as to how the long-term processes that fed into the 1947 partition of the subcontinent went on to shape the region's international relations, then this conversation I had with Aishwaria Sonavane may be of interest. Thank you Aishwaria. youtube.com/watch?v=p3InaO…

Shajrat Amin I am aware of it and have mentioned it several times. However I believe it's Wajahat Habibullah's personal account which, for research purpose, needs a confirmation or some acceptable scientific evidence. Most of the people do not accept it, claiming that Habibullah was "a close

Thanks to Kiran Kumbhar for this piece. I wrote about the flaw of 1:1000 in 2022 op-ed(s) and got backlash. Not because I was wrong but because "I was speaking out of turn". Anyway, 2006 and 2016 WHO reports on HRH are quite clear on this. 1:1000 is a made up number.

MUST READ! Kiran Kumbhar writes that India’s 1:1000 doctor target IS NOT a WHO norm. A post-2011 pivot fueled a numerical boom, often with weak training and corruption. Ratios were met by counting AYUSH which masked maldistribution and crucial quality gaps. Measure what matters!

Everytime I look at such Pateks or even Girard-Perregauxs, I am reminded of the lost opportunity with HMTs. Recent HMTs are either gaudy monstrosities or just plain unimaginative. Not surprising, of course. Real Make in India -- from Bangalore to Srinagar.
