(Yes I know whom I'm disagreeing with but) This seems slightly disingenuous: you're not looking at each individual number but the patterns, bunches, an emergent story. Much like how we can describe a vortex without modeling each individual air molecule.

They've got nothing on Hamilton, who inflicted quaternions on a BRIDGE. Until they were used for 3D rotations by computers, this remained quaternion's only concrete application.
