You can't do what you love because you don't have the skill to make it happen. That's it. Anything else is an excuse, limiting belief, or lack of awareness of what's possible (because you haven't learned the skill that unlocks that level of awareness). Skills take practice

A risk of gaining expertise is focusing so much on answering questions that you stop questioning your answers. It’s called cognitive entrenchment. As you get stuck in old schemas, you miss new ideas. The antidote isn't to deepen your knowledge. It's to broaden your perspective.

1) Thank you CSA & Paul Yost for letting me speak today on something so near to my soul: Learning from Failure. In our culture of medicine, failure is assoc w shame, losing, & wrong doing. If I could give ONE lecture to every trainee + attending doc, it would be this👇🏼

I am sad to read the comments to this thread. This wilful disregard for resident’s medical needs is so detrimental to their wellbeing. Having medical needs doesn’t make a doctor any less qualified or competent #MedEd #MedTwitter

You can’t control or change anyone. The real life “hack” is focusing that attention on improving yourself. One year later you’ll be a completely different person.

A patient told me that each time she had major surgery, during the recovery period, her domestic abuse got worse in many ways. This is a good lesson for all of us in medicine. One of the pre-op exam questions should be: do you have a safe place to recover after surgery? ❤️‍🩹
