My pitch for BITS is very simple: we coach you to make your “big if true” R&D idea even better, and measure our success by whether government agencies (or philanthropists) step up with the capital to make it happen.

Strongly agree with the conclusion of this Matthew Yglesias post - more people should be funding the YIMBY movement. (And we’re happy to be a resource to any other funders who’re interested!) Still early days but wracking up impressive successes left and right.

We are in the unusual position to hire a promising young economist for a pre-doc position this month. It’s off-cycle, but we’re anxious to work with you if you’d like to apply! I’ve got some fun projects coming up I think. Spread the word!

Very excited that Saloni will spend part of her time working with the Abundance and Growth Fund as a volunteer advisor on clinical trials!

It's important to double check things that "everyone knows to be true" by actually looking at the data. For example, people think indirect costs for publicly-funded research have exploded, when in fact they've been pretty stable over the last 40 years:

Nice piece by Oliver Kim that some mix of understating Chinese consumption and overstating production would “explain” the puzzle of Chinese underconsumption which is the basis of the global imbalances narrative global-developments.org/p/does-china-u…

1/ 📢 Cosmik Network has been awarded $1M in grant funding by Open Philanthropy and Astera Institute! These generous grants will support our development of Semble - a social "micro-knowledge" network for researchers. Think Are.na + Goodreads for research!

Xi Jinping announced to the Central Committee the goal to be competitive in talent competition by 2035. Fortunately, the US has a natural advantage in this competition, but it’s one we can't afford to lose.
