Previous Throne speeches saw commitments to end first past the post, implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, or to reverse Harper’s cuts to healthcare. Which promise from this throne speech will the Liberals break first?

Google has 94%+ of mobile search (yes, that high) — established through anti-competitive tactics. Nevertheless, we've grown to #2 in the US, UK, CA, AU & more. We'd be much higher if people could easily choose their search engine: spreadprivacy.com/search-prefere… gs.statcounter.com/search-engine-…

This is Battery use on iPhone 11 iOS 14.3. “Covid Alert” (Canada) counts for 41%! Anyone else seeing usage this high? #COVIDAlert

Don't worry Doug, thanks to #FirstPastThePost, you could still easily be re-elected. 60% of Ontarians could solidly oppose you and you'd still win. With FPTP, since only half the population votes, all that matters is appealing to the tiny 2-4% of "swing voters". Democracy. 🙄

Take action: We need paid sick days not police. We know frontline workers and racialized communities will be most impacted by more policing even as these communities are hardest hit by COVID-19. Demand paid sick days now! act.newmode.social/708832063t Decent Work and Health Network

Take Greyhound into public ownership. (It would be inexpensive at this point) Urgent scale-up of electric, made-in-Canada buses, connecting every community. What could we do in one year? (see: vaccines) We need big solutions that solve multiple problems. #GreenNewDeal

This is why First Past the Post minorities are unstable. Why bother with other parties when you can call an early election and regain your majority with less than 40% of the vote. This wouldn't be an issue if Justin Trudeau kept his promise on #electoralreform #cdnpoli

Why might we have an early election - only 2 yrs since the last one? B/c In our non-proportional system, a single party can win 100% of the power with 40% of the vote. That's a powerful incentive to pull the plug. Most Canadians would prefer ongoing cooperation in a stable govt.

Folks haven't forgotten that in 2015 Trudeau promised it would be the last election using the first-past-the-post system. We're now squarely into our second FPTP election since he made that promise to Canadians. 🧐 Fair Vote Canada 🗳 🇨🇦

If Trudeau wanted to do progressive policy, he could have done it with NDP support. But what he wants is a majority so he doesn't have to do progressive policy.

I don’t want American-style, private healthcare where the wealthy jump to the front of the line. I want Canadian-style PUBLIC healthcare.
