Reason 6,923 why we need six times as many state government reporters as we have: Apparently Minnesota is on the verge of pushing back the release of end-of-year student assessment data (available by individual student almost immediately) from 9/1 to 12/1.

Really grateful for the bipartisan leadership being shown by Rep. Heather Keeler and BenBakebergMN on tackling chronic absenteeism in MN schools.

The kind of collaboration students need in order to move the needle on this critical issue!

Three studies about teachers shortages and ways to address them. What I learned: 1) Some teaching fields have worse shortages than others. Training more people to become teachers or paying all teachers more may be good ideas, but they likely will not relieve shortages. 🧵(1/4)

'In the four years since the pandemic closed schools, U.S. education has struggled to recover on a number of fronts ... But perhaps no issue has been as stubborn and pervasive as a sharp increase in student absenteeism.' (via The New York Times) nytimes.com/interactive/20…

Prone restraint was involved in 740 of the 1,036 deaths reported on by the AP including 12 of the 15 deaths that happened in Minnesota in the last decade.

Prone restraint is dangerous and does not belong in schools (or anywhere, really it seems).
