It’s been a long time since I edited at the Herald, but I think “cap off” would be a good substitute for “end” in the tweet. The replies here are 😳

This thread is all sorts of incorrect - especially the article it links to. People would do well to be informed before they start spouting half-truths and debunked info.

“FY25 marks the highest share of the levy paid by residential property and the lowest paid by business property in at least four decades.” This is what the mayor’s compromise plan sought to avoid and the reason why property tax bills are so high.

It is sad to see politicians and people fall for false narratives that end up hurting seniors (denying them tax relief) and scaring unions (calling for furloughs). It’s completely false that the city is in fiscal crisis. There isn’t a shred of actual evidence that points to it.

Last year, my office fought for college & career readiness funding in the city budget-and now, the Office of Workforce Development has rolled out $650,000 in grants for schools and nonprofits that help first-generation 7th & 8th graders access college readiness programs.

I’m not sure that people fully understand how big of a deal this will be for the restaurants. Combined with last year’s Zip Code-restricted licenses, it’s the biggest change in the liquor license system in decades. It could really improve the scene here for patrons and owners.

This is how they’re going to defund public education. Don’t fall for it. Property tax is one of the most progressive and reliable taxes there is. We need more carveouts and a fair system within the existing property tax structure.
