Important thread from Tyler Norris showing the unfair treatment of solar by utilities: no capacity credit for RA, but then required to be deliverable in the interconnection process (NRIS). So solar pays for network upgrades but gets no RA credit. Not right.

A reminder to nuclear supporters. You can only have 2 of the following 3 things: 1. deep decarbonisation of electricity using mostly nuclear 2. no reliance on storage to manage variability of demand & supply 3. a nuclear fleet with high capacity factors 1/n

A wonderful example of how jacked the incentives of the regulated-utility industry: 1. Generators tell the utes: "Listen, we will pay up front all the money you say you need to interconnect us to your grid" 2. Ute, returning check: "No. We insist on financing these projects."

Huge but under-appreciated issue: As gas demand is expected to fall what do we do with the gas grid? Regulators increasingly consider accelerated depreciation of gas pipes. This means paying off the gas grid early to avoid stranding of assets in the future and allow for

Berkeley folks: Read this excellent thread and pls email Berkeley City Council; details in thread. Having just returned from London where I deeply appreciated how much housing density is LIFE—in the streets, for small businesses, for safety, I strongly endorse the new plan.

This is a great idea, so great that I am aware of multiple companies looking to bring something like this to market, such as VoltQuant or Yottar.

👀This isn't just about electricity planning models. It's an intercomparison of4⃣open-source, state-of-art models, and a data pipeline that feeds them. Replicable, extensible. There's more coherence and similarity in findings than any intercomparison I've seen. RSVP!

Our paper (Matthias Fripp Dr. Imelda) on how much real-time pricing lowers the cost of clean energy integration in Hawai'i was finally published in AEJ Policy. Cleaner is cheaper, especially with RTP! So why can't we just do this? aeaweb.org/articles?id=10…
