Looks like a new era of Structural Biology and #cryoEM has begun The ICR: our new Glacios TEM has arrived in its brand-new home, here presented by new Team Leaders Claudio Alfieri and @BJ_Greber. The future is bright! Thank you to all who made it happen!

Our review on AAA+ ATPases is out today! So much progress has been made but there are still lots of unanswered questions. Is there a universal ATPase mechanism? Does the classification scheme need revisiting? We hope this review will stimulate discussion! authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S09…

Proud to have contributed to this paper (out today in Angewandte Chemie) on the characterisation of the mitochondrial Complex I assembly complex, which is implicated in #Alzheimers - a wonderful collaboration between Institut de Biologie Structurale, European Synchrotron and EMBL! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.100…

The final first-author paper from my PhD is out! We characterise filaments of the metabolic protein Adc and compare it to the related protein LdcI, and find some surprising differences. A great project with the team at Institut de Biologie Structurale! nature.com/articles/s4200…

This 2.45 Å structure of a Providencia stuartii arginine decarboxylase along with a filamentous structure resolved in the same publication sheds light on the polymerisation mechanism by which these arginine decarboxylases form filaments. #cryoem #singleparticle #structuralbiology

Great to see this story on Tankyrase finally out! The culmination of a huge amount of work in the lab at The ICR over the past few years, really pleased to be able to contribute. Can't wait to see what comes next!

Time flies: we marked 10 years of the lab last week. It was great to have five of our alumni with us for the celebrations. A big thank you to all current and former lab members and everyone who enables us to do our research The ICR!

Very proud of sharing these beautiful cryo-EM structures of the human SIN3B complex. HDAC complexes are more specific than we ever thought! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…. .

An absolute privilege to take part in the #PairingScheme23 with the The Royal Society this week! Wonderful to get some insight into the relationship between science and policy, and to meet a whole range of amazing people both in science and in Westminster.

The The Royal Society's Pairing Scheme gives policymakers and research scientists an opportunity to 'experience each other's worlds'. Dr Matt Jessop (Matt Jessop), ICR Postdoc in Sebastian Guettler Lab, recently spent a week in Westminster as part of the scheme 👇🧵 (1/5)

Ben Lake MP (Ben Lake AS/MP) heard from Dr Matt Jessop (Matt Jessop) and Saira Sakalas (both of Sebastian Guettler Lab) about how they prepare and identify protein structures using #CryoEM and #ElectronMicroscopy with the hope of finding new ways to target #Cancer (7/7).

Had a wonderful time leading a roundtable discussion on issues affecting researchers, and showing Oliver and his colleagues around our electron microscopy facility at the The ICR. So pleased to take part in the The Royal Society #PairingScheme23, can't recommend highly enough!
