I am deeply saddened by the death of Alistair Darling. I, like many relied on his wisdom, calmness in a crisis and his humour. I send my deepest condolences to his loving wife Maggie and their children Calum and Anna. He will be missed by all who knew him.

One small Alistair Darling story that I found pretty striking at the time. I asked him what Jeremy Corbyn was like, hoping to understand the then Labour leader better. He smiled and shrugged. “I really don’t know. I’ve never met him.”

After an AGM last night hearing Hackney North CLP now firmly in hands of moderate members. Voting went 83-25. Another sign that London Labour is getting firmly behind the Starmer leadership going into general election.

It was a joy to meet with Keir Starmer today in London to discuss our shared values for a better future in our communities, our countries and in the world.
