Great podcast in which Helen Miller, Dan Neidle and Paul Johnson explain how National Insurance is just tax and not insurance and how the tax system favours the self-employed- yes really! If you think that is wrong, please listen to this rather than shouting at me.

Two key tax policy points, where I share Dan's frustration: (1) Number 1 rule, if you cannot define it, you cannot tax it. Disposable income, robots, etc. (2) Policy aim =/ policy instrument. Just because the aim is meritorious, does not mean the (tax) instrument is appropriate.

Sir Jeremy Hunt MP Increase in the VAT registration threshold to £90k🤦 Move in absolutely the wrong direction. UK is way higher than other countries on this one, and it means lots of businesses "bunch" just under threshold.

For goodness sake. Despite big tax rises overall chancellor has done it again. Fuel duty frozen and "temporary" 5p cut kept. This government is supposed to care about climate change. And I'm willing to bet fiscal numbers assume increases into the future. How much longer?
