I think deep down, most of us maths educators subconsciously believe in the idea of a perfect explanation for each concept that students will be guaranteed to understand. I'm here to remind you such a thing does not exist.

Is it acceptable to write a GCSE answer as £15,5 as this is how it is written on the continent? I've always said no but recent discussions about acceptable notation have made me think otherwise. If not then is €15,5 OK?

First day back after Easter break and suddenly aware how little time we have left until final exams. Students really making a real effort though, despite the glorious weather outside.

Great blog from Tom Sherrington here! Putting checking for understanding at the centre of your questioning creates a range of options so that all students are thinking about and developing their learning! I’m reminded of our bulletin about this strategy from earlier in the year! 🤓

Something I have found fascinating, since we are finally teaching students without masks, is how much younger all my students seem without their masks. Some of these students I have seen this week for the very first time without a mask.

Manipulatives should be a natural part of learning mathematics. Kids see this as part of mathematical learning in primary, so why stop at secondary?
