"What’s missing from the headlines is the gambling industry’s role, especially the lack of affordability checks or intervention.”

Check out Prof David Forrest’s analysis for Leicester and South London coroners. IMHO their ML was indefensible. Huge numbers of bets placed, no meaningful interventions.

Start with removing the “aim to permit” Give Gambling Commission a strategic priority to prevent harm. Give operators a statutory duty of care to prevent harm. ( this could give them the commercial incentive to prevent harm, rather than paying lip service to LCCP) Thanks for asking.

The real issue is that we’re not even trying. I’ve sen no meaningful change over the last 10 years. Politicians keep saying the vast majority of people gamble safely, and belittle or ignore the hundreds of thousands harmed. And industry/Geoff say didn’t we do well”.

Take note. This is what they want in the UK. Slots take £1 million an hour- money from people who can least afford it. Money that leaves the local economy and never returns.

Today at #PMQs I welcomed the Govt’s plans to give councils stronger powers over gambling outlets but we must go further. The outdated 'aim to permit' rules must end. Gambling Tax must go up. Give communities & high streets an opportunity to thrive.

🚨 NEW: The Government is taking steps to empower local communities to say NO to new gambling establishments 🎰 Brent's campaign to stop the spread of high street casinos is being heard loud and clear - enough is enough. This is the difference of Labour in power 💪🌹

Thanks to Stormont Sources for allowing me the opportunity to highlight - the prevalence of gambling harm in the North - the need for stricter regulation of the gambling industry & - the need for a public health approach to gambling harm.

Angela Rayner (MP) deprived taxpayers of £40 grand. She lost her job. Michelle Mone (Baroness) deprived tax payers of £136m, according to the government. She's enjoying life on the yacht you paid for.

Data shows that gambling disorders are among the most predictive factors of suicidal ideation and death. The evidence is shocking, the stories are heartbreaking, and the responsibility is collective. Every 40 seconds, someone dies by suicide dianova.org/fr/opinions/ch…
