MartinCompton So good to hear. I vividly remember my first reaction when I first encountered ChatGPT in 2022 was “OH NO 😬” and by the next day had changed to “actually, this is going to change so much about education that needs to be changed!” Bring it on.

In another event now and hearing from colleagues in Canada and Japan who are saying same things- we need to focus on process over product...this AI stuff is bringing us together and mobilising growing lobbies for effecting essential changes to assessment in HE

If Ofsted do scrap one word judgements what is most likely to replace them?

MartinCompton In writing many of us would use talking, writing & rewriting, and even sketching or doodling. All of these are skills that wave together to help us develop, shape, and present ideas to one another. Those are the aspects that get hidden/lost in transactional essay submissions.

If writing can be thinking then so can talking - leads me to wondering why - defence of essay would be stronger if oracy was set alongside as assessment strategy not as some sort of absurd or radical alternative
