Nope-rope (western ratsnake, right?) warning me (very successfully) with a cool faux rattle today while mushroom hunting. A likely sign, along with numerous ticks, that the season is wrapping up.

Our lab has non-fire history work in the northern CA woods this summer, but we’re constantly running into awesome fire scarred remnants like this one. I must admit to being a little relieved to not have to collect this giant, even on a #firescarfriday 😂 Kyle Rolfes
