A group of warthogs march across the Serengeti. A lone ostrich watches the parade from a distance. His eyes are five times larger than mine. The warthogs are just the opposite. They navigate with their noses. mark-ziese.squarespace.com/potd-1/2019/10…

Known in the local language as Pumbaa, this big fella posed for the camera. The mud on his lower half had not yet dried when he turned to look our way. A herd of Tommys (Thompson’s gazelle) graze on the Serengeti grasses in the distance.

The eland is the largest member of the antelope family. Males can easily top 1,000 pounds. Its size, torso-stripes, spinal crest, dewlap, and spiral-horns make it an easy ID. This group of three was part of a larger herd that we approached while on safari in Tanzania.

Finding this cub on a granite kopje made me want to pick him up and lift him high for all the world to see. Then I saw his mama.
