Lviv Deputy Mayor Serhiy Kiral (part 2/2): to the people of Sheffield: “Please be with us. We have to win and Russia has to be held accountable. We’re happy to welcome Sheffield experts in healthcare, business”. Slava Ukraini!

Lovely to spend the morning with Anton, Tanya and the volunteers from the AUGB at the Sheffield Ukrainian School. We have two concrete ideas for Sheffield City Council and @NHS in SY to offer further support to medics in Ukraine. Coming soon!

Delighted to be at the launch of the The Labour Party local election campaign in Bolsover. As the PM said, there’s nothing patriotic in cosying up to Putin and privatising the NHS…

Totally agree with: newstatesman.com/politics/2025/…. Never understood why we were so careless with our national infrastructure. A man who ‘makes money from dying industries’ doesn’t sound like he would want to revive one? CWU

Delighted that Ros Jones - Mayor of Doncaster is still Mayor Ros! Very proud that Sheffield Labour Councillors played our part. Hope the councillors get over the line this afternoon. However, the results in Don and across the country pose questions for Labour. As Ros said, we need to listen.

Reform attracted 10,000 new voters. 4,000 came from Lab. 5,000 came from ‘British Democrats’. Lesson 1: left wing people describing all these Reformers as fascists are wrong. A few are; most are decent and just want a better life for their family. So do we!

🇺🇦 Mark Rusling 🇺🇦 (@markrusling) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Lesson 2: The popularity of reopening Doncaster-Sheffield airport shows that most Reform voters agree with Labour voters. They don’t want a Musk-style destruction of govt (as Farage wants). They want govt to get on with things. So do we!

Lesson 3: We should be pleased that 10,000 new voters have joined the democratic process. Now we must show them that The Labour Party can shorten GP waiting times, lower prices, raise wages and, yes, stop the small boats which bring so much misery to those in them.

Lesson 4: We must understand the voters The Labour Party has lost to Reform. One third of voters born in 1980 are poorer than their parents - the system is broken for too many people. If we can’t deliver, these people will rightly look to others who claim they can.

Lesson 5: there are many more lessons to learn! But as Ros Jones - Mayor of Doncaster said, we need to “look and see what people are saying” because they are speaking very clearly.

Very sad to hear of Uri Rennie’s passing. Watched him ref as I was growing up - a trailblazer. He’ll be massively missed by all his many friends across Sheffield and particularly in Sheffield Labour Councillors. RIP Uri.

- £1.2b for training and apprenticeships for young men and women like I used to teach on Parson Cross. - Investing in northern infrastructure as much as in London and the SE. - £20b for defence, responding to the dangerous world we live in. Including…

£460m for Brightside Lane’s Sheffield Forgemasters. 900 new high skilled jobs in the heart of north east Sheffield, doing our bit for the UK’s civil nuclear and defence programmes. Great news.

thetimes.com/article/6f7b2a… Casey is right. It is ridiculous and dangerous to let drivers shop around for lower safeguarding standards. We need one national standard, protecting passengers and drivers who want to do the right thing.

At the Somme, the Sheffield City battalion, on 1 July, at 7.20 am 1916, the battalion moved into No Man's Land. In the memorable words of John Harris: "Two years in the making. Ten minutes in the destroying. That was our history."#LestWeForget
