Pleased to pass this alongside @LewishamLabour colleagues last night. Labour in Lewisham has a proud record on divestment - we led London on climate divestment 2018-2021, and we’re doing so again on divesting for human rights.

Last night Cllr Mark Jackson and Cllr Yemisi Anifowose moved a motion on gambling reform. Lewisham have now joined a coalition of over 40 other councils calling for urgent reforms to tackle the harms caused by gambling and to restore decision making powers to local authorities.

Very pleased to move this motion. Residents don’t want the spread of betting shops we’ve seen on our high streets in recent years - but councils have few powers to act. Lewisham Council is now committed to lobbying for councils to have those powers. Lewisham Labour delivering.
