In order to improve, you need to practice with a purpose. Don't just go through the motions and practice aimlessly. Have specific goals for what you want to improve on each day.

We have the impression that success leads to happiness which then makes us feel like our lives matter. But the truth is that feeling like we matter leads to happiness which motivates & inspires us & that, in turn, leads to success. Our society has the equation entirely backwards!

High School Coaches….PLEASE PLEASE get someone on your staff to be your recruiting coordinator or college liaison and get your players to college… if it’s your job to “win games” with these kids it’s your job to get them to college if they have the ability.. just my 2 cents

Kids can see through fake words & false promises. Always be truthful with your players. They’ll respect you so much more for being honest even when it’s uncomfortable & don’t forget your delivery counts too. Don’t belittle them. Show them you care enough to give them the truth!

COACHES: Be sure that you care more about the "person" than you care about the "player". Be more concerned about who they are than just about how they perform.

You are constantly communicating with your body language. It screams your attitude & intent loudly. Not just during practice & games, but in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, at home, in public, with your friends, at your workplace, in an interview. How do others perceive you?

Coaches: Never forget, the more respect you’ve built with your players, the more demanding you can be. You earn that right by seeing them & treating them like people first & players second. The greater the trust & respect between player & coach, the more demands leaders can make!

The older you get, the quieter you become. Life humbles you so deeply as you age. You realize how much nonsense you've wasted time on.

COACHES: Treat your athletes with respect, dignity, and empathy even when they do not return the favor, or they act immature, or they cost you a win. Be the adult. Be the positive leader. Be the example. Be one of the reasons they become a good adult one day.

Coaches: Whether you win the championship or fall short, it’s just a moment & life goes on. The greatest part of coaching is getting W’s after the season. Seeing players sign LOI, graduate HS, go to college, get jobs, be successful, etc. in the real game...LIFE! That’s Winning!!
