Join us this World Ocean Day Malta National Aquarium 🦈 We'll be there all weekend with great fun kids activities and lots to learn about our ocean and the sharks who live there!

Our survey team were lucky enough to spot four juvenile Common Stingrays and two stunning Bull Rays last week. Analysis showed that this large female and another smaller Bull Ray were brand new individuals for our database, never before spotted in Malta!

Meet our intern Sophie Babbs from Norfolk, UK! With a background in Zoology and Marine Bio, Sophie is at the heart of Sharklab having interned for 9 months so far! She is a divemaster and integral part of our education team, but her passion is for Bull Ray surveys and research!

First on our rundown of Malta's elasmobranchs is the Nursehound. This small, primarily nocturnal shark hunts at night and by day is known to hide in the rocks often alongside other Nursehounds. It is thought to be in decline due to overfishing yet is quite widely eaten in Europe.

I have completely fell in love with these bull rays (Aetomylaeus bovinus), since being in #malta . They are critically endangered, and we have the babies. Knowing if nothing changes they will be extinct within a few generations, makes me emotional! #marinebiology #marine #STEM
