Delighted that the entry written by myself and Caoimhe has been translated into Irish. Am just about to read it through. Thanks so much to those who translated it for this important week.

Terrible news. He was a wonderful man and a fascinating historian. It was an honour to launch his extraordinary book on Ireland and Scotland not so long ago. I am so sorry for his wife and family. My deepest sorrow for their devastating loss.

Leopold of course ordered the burning of the archive of his administration in the Congo. At least the horrors highlighted by Roger Casement and E.D.Morel can be remembered and discussed.

This is such a brilliant example of how easily government can manipulate the law. And told so brilliantly by the inimitable Bernadette Devlin.

Enjoyable evening in good company. Wonderful job on ‘Ireland Divided’ programme of events + exhibition by Jason Burke of The Linen Hall and one of our recent @QUB_History graduates. Go see the exhibition if in town.

Brilliant programme by Myles Dungan on Land Commission archive on St Patrick’s Day. RTE History Show 6pm. Extraordinary wealth of complex material in the archive. Will be revolutionary source for historians and others. Funding required to make the material available.

A great deal of misinformation and disinformation flying around today about the Book of Kells. Here's a recap, with a Joycean twist: 'In spite of running the gamut of Insular symptoms, crystallized by Ludwig Traube and the Traubes Schülern, and summarized by Bernhard Bischoff ...

So — what did you think? #BBCNIDebate Who performed best and why? What was the key moment in the debate? Did any of the contributions move the dial in any constituency? What questions are left unanswered for you?

We got to launch Ian d’Alton’s collected essays, Southern Irish Protestants, this evening. Bryan Dobson did the honours, and yours truly was Mc. A really nice event for a worthwhile collection and a great historian author.
