When your heart is far away in worship: 1. Confess your stale heart. 2. Mourn your lack of affection. 3. Don’t be content with how it is. 4. Pray for God to change your heart. 5. Sing, pray, and listen. 6. Afterward, remove any obstacle that led you here.

I pictured being further along by now. Wanted to be further along by now. Thought I’d arrive at spiritual maturity then just abide right there undisturbed till Jesus took me home. I’d just help others arrive. Instead, here I am over 60 still grappling. And the Word still on fire.

If I could encourage every young leader I’d say, “Don’t expect to know in 6 months what it took others 50 years to learn. It’s okay not to know. Become a lifetime wisdom-seeker. Surround yourself with people you want to be like and ask questions. Listen more than you speak.”
