Q2: Along with study skills are the key social and emotional skills that support college student success. At Mansfield Hall we focus as much on these as on academics. We also emphasize the power of having fun. mansfieldhall.org/videos/ #disabilitycollegeprep

A4: While I don't work with students in prepping for SAT/ACT tests and getting accommodations, I have years of experience witnessing the power of a good educational consultant to support this process. #disabilitycollegeprep

Q5: Students can start with accessibility support, but also check out all the student support offerings. Call or email the writing center, tutoring center, etc. and ask about their supports, see if they have experience and openness with diverse learnings. #DisabilityCollegePrep

Q5: I agree. It is really important to consider outside supports as well as campus supports. Having a team in your corner makes a world of difference.

A6: It can be really powerful when a person shares how a disability has been an opportunity for personal growth, overcoming adversity, building super powers to compensate for areas of challenge. But certainly is a very personal decision to share in essay. #disabilitycollegeprep

A6: It is true, and it makes me sad. We need so much more advocacy and education for higher ed professionals to realize how students on the spectrum can bring meaningful diversity and incredible contributions to a campus community.

There are beds that will literally shake to wake you up, and alarm clocks that will scurry across the room and make you follow them;-) Getting out of bed can be a challenge for all college students. Sleep hygiene is key to college success!

A8: The differences are profound. In the simplest of terms: in secondary education, by law, the supports have to come to you and in post secondary education, you have to come to the supports. This is why self advocacy becomes an essential skill. #DisabilityCollegePrep

A8: Kyle Kane I agree. It is so different. The transition from high school to college is not a step but a huge leap for so many students with disabilities. Students must reach out to professors directly, parents can't reach out to them at all! #disabilityCollegePrep

A9: Self advocacy can begin in childhood. It needs to be developed along with empowering self awareness, self knowledge. Young people need opportunities to take risks in advocating for themself. Role playing can be a powerful learning tool to prepare. #disabilitycollegeprep
