This is an interesting read. Funny coincidence that it is published on the day which apparently (according to Montel Analytics) has seen the lowest expected wind power generation (given current levels of capacity) in 40 years! Shows the challenge (which can be met, tho not easy)

Side Pike and the Langdales. A lovely view, albeit not in the kind of conditions I had in my minds eye. Suspect there's a better image to be had further back on Lingmoor Fell. That's one for another trip. Still enjoyed my walk though and pleased enough with the end result

Has global warming accelerated in recent decades? If we look at the rate of warming between 1970 and 2008 and extend it through present, we see that almost all years since 2015 are above the previous trend.

For the first few decades of satellite observations, open water passages through the Arctic Ocean rarely formed. Now, there is open water along the Russian and/or Canadian coast for 40+ days a year.

A wonderfully wild and windy evening in Peel, amongst the remnants of Storm Darragh yesterday. #wexmondays #sharemondays2024 #fsprintmonday

After weeks of missing some good conditions, finally managed to get out on New Year's Day. Forecast actually promised a nice sunrise, but was happy to get this moody scene instead

Stormy conditions last week at Langness, looking towards the lighthouse (former owner one J.Clarkson, not popular in these parts after he tried to remove the right of way round it).

One of my favourite views in the Island, the Iron Age roundhouse at the Braaid. Pleased to have got some light, after 3 years of trying. The icing on the cake is snow on the hills. Here it's easy to feel connected to the people who have inhabited this land for thousands of years

Not as dramatic as some images from the recent wintery weather. However, it's rare to get proper snow here, so I was really excited to be able to get up into the hills with my camera. I trudged to the top of Beinn-y-Phott but that was cloudy and so grabbed this on the way up

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of John ‘Paddy’ Hemingway DFC – Last of ‘The Few’. We reflect not only on his sacrifices, but the sacrifices of all those who served & fought in WWII. Paddy, thank you for your service. Per Ardua ad Astra raf.mod.uk/news/articles/…
