A5 giving compliments that show I’ve noticed the creativity, time, and/or heart they’ve poured into their work —and smiling #MasteryChat

A6 Thank you Matthew Palmer for bringing creative genius to everything—makes me want to try harder; Brett Vogelsinger for enriching my repertoire of R/W ideas—makes me want to keep learning #masterychat

With so many children now at home for school, please let them read what they want--whether that's comics, graphic novels, picture books, books "below their reading level," or the same book they've read 100 times. Let them read what they want. They need it right now (and always).

Don't forget, for all your reading needs, the secondary students in CB can access their Sora App through their laptops or phones for access to ebooks and some audiobooks. For more audio books, Unami kids can get these in Destiny too.

Minilessons for distance learning look different than they would in the classroom. Make them leaner, more precise, & keep them under 5 minutes (especially if recording). Simplify the work by keeping the 3 “Ts” in mind. Thank you @MaggieBRoberts for sharing #LiteracyTipTuesday

To avoid catching others’ stress: 1. Write a 2-minute email praising someone you know 2. Write 3 things for which you’re grateful 3. Write for 2 minutes about a positive experience 4. Exercise for 30 minutes 5. Meditate 2 minutes ⁦⁦Harvard Business Review⁩ hbr.org/2015/09/make-y…

Introduced 7th grade writers to the workshop model using a comparison between: the spaghetti art challenge, writing workshop, and the children's book The Most Magnificent Thing. Excited to work with these writers!

Interesting idea: "One of my best writing teachers used to ask her class, after finishing a novel, to go back and read the first paragraph for the ways in which it predicted the rest of the text, or in the most skillful cases, taught us to read it." getpocket.com/explore/item/a…

To have a "game-changing" impact on learning, students should read and/or be read to for a minimum of 60 minutes daily, across the curriculum, at every grade level. And they should write for at least 40 minutes. —Mike Schmoker Focusing on the Essentials: ascd.org/el/articles/fo…
