African, & Rwandans, have to go through excruciating procedures to secure Schengen Visas. Also, Rwanda & Belgium have singed international and bilateral legally binding policies that regulate migration between the two countries.

It is inimaginable then for Embassy of Belgium in Rwanda to cancel visas without notice. Beyond lack of professionalism, that is total arrogance and pride, that led the Visa holder to be detained in Brussels Airport and undergo unnecessary trauma.

Rwandans through their political leadership stressed & underlined that the basis of our relationship with foreign authorities is mutual respect. Respect that was not given upon a visa cancelation without notice & lack of acknowledgment of harm done by Bert Versmessen & his team.

I hope competent Rwandan authorities investigate & take necessary measures towards Embassy of Belgium in Rwanda , which unilaterally and arbitrary cancels Visas without notifying the Visa holder all while having their contact information as required in the Visa Application process.

Belgium, through Embassy of Belgium in Rwanda & its ambassador Bert Versmessen & consul Harold Vandermeulen must be reminded that there is no space in Rwanda for their disrespectful archaic mindset that provides them the audacity to act as beholders of colonial authority. How presumptuous & insolent!
