The NYPD spent $150 Million *extra* last year to catch people who weren't able to afford to pay the subway fare. They owed just $104,000. $150 million could buy free fares (at going rate) for 95,000 poor New Yorkers per year. Instead four people shot, including an officer.

Someone should do a quantitative test of how long it takes to reach human customer support on various services and then force providers to publish that next to their advertised monthly price. E.g., Verizon, 45 mins avg., American Airlines 2 hrs, etc.

One reaction to my last post, “Kamala Harris Will Win the Popular Vote,” has been something like, “Duh, but what matters is the Electoral College.” I’d ask you to consider what it means that we collectively shrug off such an anti-democratic structure as “just the way it is.”

Hey DoorDash, you "detected suspicious activity," banned my card, and while it's "under review" there's no details, I can't use my card's Dashpass so I have to pay more for delivery. Support agents disconnect if I don't reply within ~45 seconds. Seems real convenient for you

Case in point: there's no way to build a backdoor that only the "good guys" can use. When the entire technical community says that the EU's ChatControl legislation + similar pose serious cybersecurity threats, we're not exaggerating for effect.

Y'all understand if Trump wins, both Alito and Thomas retire w/in 6 months and he replaces them with two 40something justices who ensure a right wing majority until 2050, give or take. So, if you're 30 or over, that's your SCOTUS for the rest of your life.

1. Too often, businesses make people jump through endless hoops just to cancel a subscription. Today FTC finalized a rule requiring that businesses make it as easy to cancel a subscription as it is to sign up for one. ftc.gov/news-events/ne…

For all learning of disgraced Gov. Cuomo's narcissistic return to politics w/ a run for NYC Mayor, this this thread is for you. People seem to love him. I & people who know his policies have long despised him & his abject cruelty & injustice. Receipts in no particular order:

hot take: the word 'spyware' has virtually disappeared from internet lingo not because it went away, but because it became applicable to nearly every major website and widely used software.
