Pro tip: have “interviews released on 10/25” written on a sticky note on your bathroom mirror. A daily reminder to NOT panic and NOT let what I see on Med Twitter discourage me. It’s allllll gon’ be okay 😎

A non-medical friend recently asked me to describe clinic. I told her to imagine you have 20 meetings in a day, half of them new clients with urgent needs. Each requires your best self. You are late for at least 10 of them. You must prepare a report and deliverables for each one.

As a nurse practitioner in Texas, I’m against full practice authority. NP education is not standardized and does not prepare a new graduate NP to practice *alone*. Without linkage of prescriptive authority to a physician, the physician has no reason to help a new grad learn.1/

Had a medical student ask me what is the hardest part about being a first Gen… and tbh, it’s the loneliness that comes with the constant pursuit of higher education. Achieving important milestones, alone. Family and friends support, but they don’t really understand.

1/ When I saw you on rounds that morning you were quiet. Your eyes looked in my direction but were otherwise vacant. This was a change. Me: "You okay?" You: "Yup." There was coolness in the way you spoke. After that, you turned away from me and faced the wall. Ooph.

What I’m good at: - hyponatremia - pneumonia - sepsis - heart failure What my family asks me about: - ear itch - boob pain - random rashes - “am I farting too much?”

One more redo🧵for the students... Here I will explain what is meant by 'French' when we are talking about Foleys and NG tubes and such. Also we will cover what the 'Gauge' of an IV means. (1/ )

In no particular order, here are some of my favorite unhinged memes to send my co-PGY2s, my seniors, and some of my attendings when work is a dumpster fire 🧵
