A2: Reciprocal teaching fits within the broader list of comprehension strategies because it is not enough to stand alone. It's just 4 supplemental strategies of the multiple ones that should be used for the Ss to comprehend text. Small group or literature circles. #RTfab4

A3: What appeals to me about the Fab Four is giving the student the control to be able to self monitor their comprehension and give them the confidence they need. I love the idea of the student being more aware of their own comprehension of a text. #RTfab4

A4: Some common problems I imagine encountering are the students using the four strategies in longer texts. With the text length increase in grade levels I think the challenge of a longer text combined with the new strategies would be difficult to navigate. #RTfab4

A5: Reciprocal teaching can’t stand alone because it isn’t comprehensive enough. It doesn’t include all the essential components that students need to increase their reading comprehension. #RTfab4

A6: One way to assess students is the Four Door Chart. By the responses from the students the teacher will be able to determine which strategy the student is struggling with. Mini lessons will strengthen the students ability to use the individual 4 strategies. #RTfab4

A1: You don’t have to wait for the students to be proficient. Research shoes the 4 strategies should be introduced as quickly as possible for the students to benefit from the multiple strategy instruction. #RTfab4

A2: Ways: Read Alouds, Shared Reading of Poetry, Four Door Chart, Fab 4 Characters and Props and Mentor Texts. Read Alouds sounds appealing as a way for me to introduce RT to my students and teach the students how to use the strategies bc it is something I do everyday.#RTfab4

A3: The Fab 4 gestures help give the students something kinesthetic to use with each strategy. Research shows that using the hand gestures helps students with comprehension. #RTfab4

A4: Any reading material that is appropriate for the students! I am excited to introduce it to my students during read alouds as well as content area as well! The lesson (p.64) is great and works for all grade levels. #RTfab4

A2: To keep students engaged you can use scaffolding, think-alouds, metacognition, cooperative learning - instructional foundations. #RTfab4

A4: The 4 foundations are necessary to keep the students engaged and ultimately to eventually be able use the strategies independently. #RTfab4

A5: Ways to assess during whole group: listen to student responses WG, listen to the cooperative learning group discussions, listen to students in pairs, written (Literature Discussion Sheet p205).#RTfab4

A1: RT strategies fit into guided reading lessons by giving the student more practice using the strategies and using them in a smaller setting. #RTfab4

A2: Comprehension charts can assist the students in guided reading lessons by giving them a visual to remember and check off the Fab4 as they go through each one. #RTfab4

A3: Teachers are able to coach through the strategies in SG by rotating through the students and giving individual feedback to students. #RTfab4

A4: Teachers can assess students during RT discussions - listening to their responses as they use the Fab4. There is a rubric on p254 that is super helpful. Also Ts can listen and coach students during silent reading. #RTfab4

A5 RT intervention is a separate intervention that is in addition, giving the students another opportunity to practice the strategies using text slightly below grade level and when students are proficient, move to grade level text. #RTfab4
