If you are an elementary teacher and really want to torture your students’ future secondary English teachers, really enforce how “In this essay” is a great way to start every essay. Then tell them to follow that systemically with “in this paragraph” throughout.

My latest & last blog for CSTP It’s a bit ominous, but not w/o hope for the future. Personally, I’m moving classrooms & shifting the grade levels I teach. Other than that, it’s a matter of moving forward with hope & tenacity. 😏 #edutwitter #education storiesfromschool.org/the-exodus/

Optimism is more than just a positive state of mind. It’s also a competitive advantage in business, sports and life. While the pessimists are complaining about the future, and the realists are talking about it, the optimists are working hard to create it.

A1 We need to take care of ourselves to be any good to others. (Put on the oxygen mask so you can help someone else with theirs.) Besides, as educators we need to set healthy examples. #BuildHOPEedu

A2 If you do not have a work/life balance, you will come to resent work, and your family will, too. Taking time for what you love outside of work will make you a better, fresher teacher for the long haul. #BuildHOPEedu

A3 School leaders need to see educators as people first, employees second. (Much like we should see the humanity in our students.) Real human connections so we feel validated and enabled to let our administrators know when we need something, like time, a break, etc. #BuildHOPEedu

A4 we need to be humans first in our relationships with students. They need to know we save time for our families and our hobbies, and that we want them to as well. We have to prioritize our collective wellbeing. #BuildHOPEedu

It is not my job as a teacher to make parents happy. It is my job as a teacher to cultivate productive, kind global citizens who have respect for themselves and others.
