This is the time of year where I act like I totally remember the names of all my epimediums. (Pretty sure this nifty specimen is a form of E. wushanense.)

Spring might be feeling a bit sheepish for oversleeping, but it's doing its best to make up for lost time. (Rhododendron 'Emma and May')

After extensive location scouting, Rose has selected the potato ditch as her preferred dust spa. The resident potatoes are unamused but generally accommodating.

Don't let anyone convince you that choosing to grow food is a compromise of your garden's aesthetic quality. A garden is only made more beautiful when its blossoms promise even better things to come.

One of the Pacific Coast hybrid irises. An ephemeral but exquisite delight in bloom. A tough bunch of strappy evergreen leaves the rest of the year. Generally worth having around.

Our daughter scattered poppy seeds in the veggie garden three years ago. Now they're my favorite part of the garden. Goes to show who really wears the clogs in this family.

'Green Beauty' snow peas. Although you'd be forgiven for assuming a gang of unruly, diminutive orchids had somehow snuck into my garden.

Moved to a new house this summer. A firm reminder that gardens are not possessions to be packed up and lugged through life. A few potted peppers made the trip. Not much of a harvest, but I look out and see tomorrow's garden unfurling. More to come! #gardening

Another fortunate stowaway from our previous house. Acer 'Sister Ghost' present and accounted for (and looking fabulous). #gardening
