“Is that all?” He’s trying to hide a smile, imagining this hard, rock of a man dressed up in any sort of Halloween costume. It just doesn’t seem right!

“I was just wondering—.” Ah, shit. He’s full on smiling now. It’s just a funny thought!

If he had been smiling, it disappears as soon as it appears, Mark giving Dex a look. Dex’s moods aren’t new to the healthcare professional. “Don’t be like that.”

“I wasn’t laughing at anything you said.” His voice isn’t impatient, it’s calm as ever. Returning Dex’s mood with any sort of anger or frustration would result in something that no one wanted to be a part of.

“I don’t think it’s funny. I was just. . imagining you wearing a costume. It’d never happen in real life— That’s why I was smiling.”

Mark’s sat up in the bed, always observing Dex. He’s basically an anthropologist at this point. But only for Dex.
