The civilian casualties from Israeli strikes overnight are appalling. All parties must re-engage with negotiations to get hostages out, surge aid, and secure a permanent end to this conflict. Diplomacy, not more bloodshed, is how we get security for Israelis and Palestinians.

We are horrified and saddened by the scenes in Gaza. There must be an immediate ceasefire, the hostages must be returned home, and international aid should flow into Gaza. We need the international community to redouble their efforts for a just and sustainable peace.

The CWU National Executive met today and unanimously agreed to nominate Lucy Powell for the role of Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. We put questions to both candidates and Lucy’s responses were by far the most in depth and showed a commitment to work openly with trade unions.
