The unfolding events in Israel and Palestine are deeply alarming. We need an immediate ceasefire and urgent de-escalation. And we need a route out of this tragic cycle of violence: ending the occupation is the only means of achieving a just and lasting peace.

UN experts have warned that we are witnessing a genocide in the making. Home by home, hospital by hospital, generation by generation, Palestinians are being wiped out before our very eyes. MPs had the chance to demand a ceasefire. The majority chose to cheer on war instead.

Tonight, Rishi Sunak disgracefully labelled those marching and campaigning for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the occupation of Palestine as “extremists”. Let’s be clear: it is those in power supplying arms to the genocidal Israeli government that are the real extremists.

The assault on Rafah is another utterly despicable war crime. As bombs rain down on a trapped and terrified population, we implore our government to find an ounce of humanity and end its complicity in this senseless massacre. Wake up. This is not war. This is genocide.

If you rightly condemn Russia for their depravity as they bomb hospitals and kill children, but continue to sell arms to Israel, who have killed over 14,000 children (and counting) and destroyed Gaza's hospitals with impunity, then you are a hypocrite. Simple.
