We've had early success developing a neural net deep learning model to automate species ID in acoustic datasets. Accuracy rates > 90% on single-species calls. So far trained on 14 Victorian #frog species and counting #ARIScience delwp.vic.gov.au/media-centre/h…

A sobering but important message. "Increased resourcing and management intervention are urgently needed to avert future extinctions of Australia’s frogs" publish.csiro.au/pc/pdf/PC21019

An Australian first & a rare win well-worth celebrating! A species previously #extinct in the wild on mainland Australia, now downgraded to #endangered in Victoria. Amazing longterm effort by many people working on Eastern Barred Bandicoot #conservation tinyurl.com/m3txpuut

We have had a couple of reports of dead #frogs from #NewZealand too. Both reports are of Australian native frogs that were introduced to NZ. Please spread the word, #NZ, & report any sick or dead frogs to [email protected]

Surveys last weekend for the recently described Litoria watsoni in east Gippsland, Victoria. Slowly building a picture of genetic diversity across the population #frog #fieldwork

I'm giving a talk tonight about Litoria watsoni, a rare enigma of a forest frog. I'll be summarising the story of work on this species in Vic since its rediscovery in 2015, with results of recent genetics work & acoustic monitoring. Come along! #frogconservation #ARIscience

Panel discussion: “The data are in, we know enough facts to know we need to change things. So maybe we need to be thinking and talking about human behaviour and the HOW to create change, when it’s not dollars that are lacking, but values.” Brendan Wintle #BXB22

Sobering article on the threats facing this species but also what we can do help mitigate these. Congrats to DELWP ARI scientist Lindy Lumsden on her long term study of this species and other bats across Australasia. ⁦@DELWP_Vic⁩ ⁦Fern Hames⁩ theconversation.com/one-of-austral…

New paper out today led by @KDNewman87, developing an analytical solution for optimising detection surveys, to maximise the number of sites with at least one detection of a single species. Glad our team could contribute #Leadbeaterspossum survey data for this work. #ARIScience
