Monday: happy international women’s day! Women should feel empowered to call out bullying and abuse. Tuesday: how dare a woman speak out about something that’s had a huge impact on her mental health? Wednesday: if women choose to walk home alone then they put themselves at risk.

I’d lived in London for less than a month when a man approached me, asked for a lighter and proceeded to follow me all the way back to my flat where I quickly locked the door behind me, stop telling women to stay indoors, it is not out behaviour that needs to change.

The men in my life-whether you be a partner, friend, family member, colleague or acquaintance: I am talking directly to you. Normalise talking about what it is you can personally be doing to create a safer world for the womxn you surround yourself with.Pull your fucking socks up.
