The headline says it all. Afghan #BritishCouncil teachers have been stuck in Pakistan for over a year. Some are pregnant, others have new-borns. GOV.UK needs to fix #ACRS & get them relocated. British Council needs to provide support. Rishi Sunak Kate Ewart-Biggs #AtRiskTeachers
Encouraging news for some of the Afghan British Council teachers stuck in Pakistan. After well over 2 years of waiting, approx 15 of the teachers will be relocated to the UK in the next 2 days on flights provided by GOV.UK. Many more remain stuck in π΅π° & π¦π«. #AtRiskTeachers
Thanks to Baroness Smith & Lindsay Northover for reminding GOV.UK of the urgent need to relocate our former Afghan allies. Afghan British Council teachers remain in hiding in Afghanistan & Pakistan. Rishi Sunak, please can you address this issue. Kate Ewart-Biggs Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office #AtRiskTeachers
After waiting for well over 2 years, former British Council teacher 'Nazila' has finally arrived safely in the UK with her family. She is a determined Afghan woman who has survived great hardship & suffering. Many more #AtRiskTeachers remain stuck in Afghanistan & Pakistan.
While some Afghan British Council teachers have at last been relocated to the UK, many more remain in hiding in Afghanistan, or stuck in hotels in Pakistan. Let's get them to safety. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Rishi Sunak Kate Ewart-Biggs #AtRiskTeachers
Encouraging to see another British Council teacher safely relocated to π¬π§. After 2 years hiding from the Taliban & waiting in Pakistan, Jawid is finally able to start living again, free from fear & persecution. Many more #AtRiskTeachers remain stuck, awaiting #ACRS relocation.
Former British Council teacher 'Ali' spent over 2 years waiting to be relocated after the Taliban took control of π¦π«. 2 weeks ago he arrived in π¬π§, and went straight to the local library to learn. He is a strong believer in the value of education. Rishi Sunak #AtRiskTeachers
While some British Council teachers have at last been relocated to π¬π§, many more remain stuck in hiding in Afghanistan or in hotels in Pakistan. They've been waiting for well over 2 years now. GOV.UK needs to finish the job & get the teachers to safety Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office #AtRiskTeachers
Afghan British Council teachers enabled learners all across Afghanistan. Sadly, when the Taliban took power we left our teachers behind. Over 2 years later, 20+ remain in hiding in Afghanistan, with a further 25 stuck in hotels in Pakistan. Rishi Sunak please fix. #AtRiskTeachers
Scott McDonald Joseph Field Great that British Council is pledging to support refugees & specifically displaced teachers... but what about all the Afghan BC teachers left behind in Afghanistan & stuck in Pakistan. No educational provision for them for over 2 years! Why not Scott McDonald ? #AtRiskTeachers
Great to see #BritishCouncil pledging to "help refugees use the power of language learning"... but what about all the abandoned #AtRiskTeachers stuck in Afghanistan & Pakistan - How does British Council plan to support them? Kate Ewart-Biggs Joseph Field britishcouncil.org/voices-magazinβ¦
Here's the British Council pledge for supporting displaced teachers. It refers to "well-being needs, recognising & addressing trauma..." Over 100 Afghan BC teachers were wrongly left behind when the Taliban took power. Many are still stuck in π¦π« & π΅π° - they need support from BC.
Great to see British Council is keen to support displaced teachers from various countries... no mention of Afghan teachers though! What support will BC provide for Afghan teachers a) arriving in the UK b) stuck in Pakistan c) hiding in Afghansitan? #AtRiskTeachers Kate Ewart-Biggs
BBC News (UK) reports about the #ARAP rejection of Afghan Special Forces allies are very disappointing. British Council teachers also suffered the same unfair treatment, & were left to suffer Taliban brutality as a result. Many are still stuck in Afghanistan. Let's get them to safety
Thanks to EL Gazette (English Language Gazette) for reminding GOV.UK & British Council of their responsibilities to the abandoned Afghan BC teachers. Some of our teachers are still in hiding in Afghanistan or stuck in hotels in Pakistan. #AtRiskTeachers Kate Ewart-Biggs Rishi Sunak elgazette.com/elg_archive/ELβ¦
