ICYMI, H7N9 has re-entered the chat. Based on the fundamental properties of this virus, it has been recognized for years as inherently risky for potential human emergence and pandemic impact. Points A and B here are both H7N9 variants, scored by experts on specific risks.

The top oped piece at the The Washington Post is calling for an end to dog experiments, citing evidence our rescue team obtained at Ridglan Farms. This is the beginning of the end, not just for dogs, but for all the tortured beings in labs.

Though I didn't have sheep on my #H5N1 #birdflu bingo card, by this point nothing should surprise me or us about this tricky, tricky virus. The UK has found an infected sheep. Where there's one, there certainly could be more. gov.uk/government/new…

America's chickens and pigs are sicker than ever. In 2023, >50% of both tested positive for Salmonella, most with antibiotic-resistant strains. Maybe crowding millions of chickens and pigs together on top of their manure wasn't a great idea?

New study on a strain of swine flu that is circulating and periodically jumping to human handlers, with increasingly frequency since 2021: "According to the pandemic risk assessment framework, viruses that exhibit a specific set of traits should be prioritized for surveillance.

One thing I’ll never understand: so many people care deeply about poverty, inequality, war, and climate change — yet they turn a blind eye to this. Even a five-year-old, shown just a few pictures, would instantly see the truth: this system is pure horror.

What I think about every time I hear people gush about using Claude as their therapist or uploading all of their journals into it. Really? You want to give this continuously-evolving tool access to your most personal information?

China's biotech push is not just about to take over medicine, but also future food. Our recent analysis shows Chinese public institutions/Universities have filed more patents in the #cultivatedmeat sector than the US and EU combined. S. Korea is also making a major push:

Excited to talk about this intersection; couldn’t be more timely. Systems as massive & complex as our food system feel almost unassailable… until a vulnerability is suddenly laid bare and we see how fragile they are. Food biomfg is a key piece of a broader resilience strategy.
