Scorchio on the Thames Foreshore this morning. The low tide gave me the base of a 17th/18thC onion bottle (for storing wine or spirits), two clay pipe bowls (late 17th/early 18thC) and the rim of a post medieval redware vessel, the potter’s thumb prints used as decoration.

Attempting a partial walking of the North Downs Pilgrim trail with Didier the Doodle on this glorious May day, though he insisted on stopping to sniff every leaf, twig & burrow. I now realise why Chaucer did *not* include dogs in the Canterbury Tales.

We are devastated to hear of the loss of loved heritage in a theft at Ely Museum. We encourage anyone who can to reach out and show support for Ely Museum and their local community.

Because it’s Bank Holiday Monday & peeing down with rain all day I’ve been baking. I can take or leave chocolate brownies, often find them stodgy and claggy, but Ottolenghi’s recipe with halva & tahini is divine.

Shout out for upcoming mudlarking exhibition at Henfield Hall, Horsham, West Sussex next Saturday, 11th May. There is a small entry fee and tickets can be bought at the door. I won’t be there that day but other fellow mudlarks will be displaying their finds. Do go if you can.

Today marks 30 years since the Channel Tunnel was opened on 6 May 1994. From the signing of the treaty in 1986 to the inauguration by Queen Elizabeth II & President Mitterrand, we celebrate this great 🇫🇷 🇬🇧 achievement that has contributed so much to our 2 countries' closer ties.
