We’ve had a busy morning adding to our display cases.
A selection of items from our 'Burial of a Princess’ exhibition last year are now on long-term display as well as some lovely recent finds.

At the end of our #MuseumABC we have a pair of zebras for Z!🦓
This cute pair is part of a wooden set of Noah’s Ark together with other impressive and detailed carvings of animals, from moles to elephants!
Y is for yellow in our #MuseumABC – look at this beautiful yellow scent bottle.🤩
Scent bottles were usually made from cut glass, just like this one. Adorned with bright and beautiful colours, mesmerising shapes and even patterns, they were often collected for their beauty.
🔎We’ve had our eyes peeled for a ‘X’ shape in our collections for #MuseumABC .
Can you spot three ‘X’ shapes on this token? It was made for Rev John Read.
Tokens were used as symbols of receipt or debt, or used in small transactions in shortage of small denomination coins.
W is for Whistle in our #MuseumABC .
🪶 This beautiful pottery whistle was made at Prickwillow Pottery. It is shaped and painted to resemble a skylark.
It's #NationalSportingHeritage Day!
This arm badge of the National Sporting Association from 1880 belonged to George ‘Fish’ Smart. He enjoyed many victories in fen skating tournaments during winters of 1879-80 and 1880-81. ⛸️

V is for Ventriloquist Dummy in our #MuseumABC .
Pictured below is Vernon Cross of Ely with his two ventriloquist dummies. Cross worked as a magician’s assistant and ventriloquist in his youth and his passion for the stage continued into adulthood.
On today's #FensFriday we're looking at fen skating.
In the 19th century, skating races were advertised in local papers and thousands gathered to watch famous skaters like William “Turkey” Smart, William “Gutta Percha” See, and brothers James and George “Fish” Smart.
U is for Urchin in our #MuseumABC !
Sea urchins are still found in our seas today, but this example comes from our fossil collection and is millions of years old. Just like ammonite fossils, urchin fossils can be used to date the rocks around them.
