More and more people are showing up at the #BLM protest. Organisers are playing music and say they want a peaceful day.

Between 300 and 400 have turned up at the #BLM protest at #Newcastle #TimeSquare where the sun is shining. All is peaceful.

Organiser, Yanus Bakhsh, with North East Against Racism,is delighted with the turnout at the #BLM protest. He says he is pleased people are having a great time as they show solidarity.

Yanus said: “It is fantastic that so many have come down, and what is great as well is that people are keeping their social distance”

Yanus added:”It’s a pity the council said don’t come. I can’t see the difference between people coming here or people going shopping. But hey, we’re here today and we’re going to have a good time.”

Ellie Lloyd and Alice Durkin, both 17, have travelled from Darlington to be at the #BLM protest at #Newcastle #TimesSquare. Ellie said:”we came to show our support and solidarity”

This band has got the day off to a great start. Organisers said they wanted the #BLM gathering to be “family friendly” and not the ugly scenes that took place last week.

Judith Mbuyi, 24, from Blakelaw, Newcastle, came to the #BLM protest with her brother Johnny, 27, because she is wanting to improve the future for black women.
