“Any suggestions to follow in the US’s footsteps and cut development and humanitarian spending to fund defence spending would be reckless, short-sighted and would in fact undermine the UK’s own security interests.” - Romilly Greenhill - hear, hear. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…

Quick reminder from ONE where UK taxpayers' money goes - and why cutting aid to increase defence spending won't balance the books, it will just cost lives

Totally stunned. At a time when the UK needs to step up for the world's most vulnerable, it's stepping back. The failure to see how important aid is for global & national security is galling. We need defence and development. They're mutuallty reinforcing, not a zero sum game.

Earlier today the government announced a cut to the UK aid budget to fund an increase in defence spending. 12 years ago, we released this video to show how aid protects children in the toughest situations. Now, the message is more important than ever.

Minister of State for Development, Anneliese Dodds, has resigned in response to the UK Gov slashing international aid to historic lows. As conflict, climate change, and poverty are devastating lives, these cuts put the world’s most vulnerable at even greater risk. #AidCuts

#UKaid cuts ~ my interview with Sky News earlier this week Save the Children UK we are calling on PM Keir Starmer to act in the UK's national interest and in the interests of vulnerable children around the world: reverse the aid cut now! m.youtube.com/watch?v=REsKg0…

Where is Ukraine’s missing money? Have you seen it? Because we haven’t—and neither have the children of Ukraine. Sky Sports News and Kaveh Solhekol are asking the question—so are we. David Lammy and the UK Government must release the Chelsea Fund now. RT to demand action.

The realities of cuts to programmes providing life saving support for children are devastating. How awful that the UK will add to this misery through #ukaid cuts. #cutsthatkill

The UK must not be an #AllyToAtrocities Keir Starmer and David Lammy. Israel’s latest attacks on Gaza shows that impunity breeds further atrocities. The UK must end its complicity once and for all. Go to allytoatrocities.com to find out more.

Under the Tories, Britain spent 28% of our aid budget on asylum hotels — an egregious waste of taxpayers' money and a clear misuse of funds intended to tackle global poverty. I'm pleased this government is committed to speeding up asylum processing and reducing reliance on hotel

UK aid cuts will devastate lives across the world. ❗ 55 million people will be deprived of aid. ❗ Women and girls will suffer the most. ❗ 12 million people will be without access to clean water or sanitation. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

Very important that the ONE campaign is questioning the legality of the UK aid cuts. The legislation is there for a reason, and shouldn't be flouted for political reasons. Rule of law matters. And the 65 million people (at least) whose lives will be upturned by the cuts matter.

#AIDCUTS STATEMENT: Today Govt set out an extremely worrying retreat from tackling poverty. Baroness Chapman said work to develop economies is a priority but decimating support for education and girls' equality will hold back this aspiration. Details ⬇️savethechildren.org.uk/news/media-cen…

So, for those killed and those whose voices are silenced: what more evidence do you need? Will you act now – decisively – to prevent genocide in Gaza and to ensure respect for international humanitarian law? This Council must prevail. Demand this ends.
