One outcome of the Trump era will be researchers naming their projects so that the dumbest people in the world can understand what they are. If these guys had named this the “grow big bean faster project” they’d still have funding.

Honestly this is a good thing. We’re never going to get leadership that is serious about building transit if politicians think they can dither forever without consequences.

Very excited to set up my child's 529 college savings plan. As a member of the Democratic party, I know there's no problem a tax-advantaged investment account can't fix!

The vote here was: Elected board members: 1 for, 8 against, 1 abstention Appointed board members: 10 for, 0 against I don't know anything about this interim CEO, but it should be a scandal every time the BoE members who actually won elections are ignored like this.

The theory that Democrats should allow direct-to-consumer auto sales as a way of undermining the key Republican constituency of Guys Who Own Car Dealerships looks stronger every day.

Any law that further pushes aldermen in the direction of being little mayors rather than legislators is a bad idea. If the council wants to regulate Airbnbs it should past city-wide legislation, not invite bribery and abuse with more "ward boss" laws.

Yep. Future generations will look back at our political culture's obsession with manufacturing jobs with puzzled bewilderment.

Call me naive but I genuinely thought mainstream liberals had concluded that the invasion of Iraq was a catastrophic mistake that should never be repeated. Why are places like The New York Times getting hung up on procedural questions like Congressional approval? Just oppose the damn war!

Really shameful that this can pass unanimously in North Carolina but we can’t even get an ordinance introduced in Chicago.

I am 100% here for Glazer's immediate reaction that FAR rules are stupid. I have never heard a convincing explanation for why they exist at all (beyond assuaging the urban planners' urge to micromanage). Just let the building be as skinny or fat as it wants to be!

Starting a new job and getting barraged by unskippable "we use AI now" setup wizards for every account I have to setup. This sucks. Please let me just use your app Airtable

It’s amazing how every single person who posts stuff like this lives outside the US. Dude you’re Australian! Why should we care what you think makes someone an American? Why do YOU care in the first place?

Marxists will say stuff like this and the Western ideals they're mad that Gorbachev advanced are like "extremely rudimentary freedom of political expression", and "not having tanks sent to your capital when you threaten to leave the Soviet bloc"

Obviously this is incredibly dumb but Americans should look up what the equivalent graph of post-tax, post-benefits earnings is in their state before dunking. We 100% have the same problem!
