I've mostly ignored backstories for the last few years. Normally, I don't ask for one, and my campaigns run very smoothly without worrying about PC baggage from before they start the game. But I'm curious: Do any of you have good experience integrating backstory? #dnd #ttrpg

Just finished Jasper Fforde’s Red Side Story, sequel to 2012’s Shades of Grey. I’d begun to doubt it would come out, but I’m glad it did. Story, characters & dialogue were good, but the main appeal was the world building, & Fforde wrapped up the setting’s mysteries well enough.

If you had Jeff Bezos money, I’m wondering what it would take to return Cairo IL to economic vibrancy. It’s at the confluence of two major rivers, has nearby rail and interstate, and is convenient to Boomland. That’s where he should have put HQ2, just for the SimCity challenge.

Morpheus held out two pills. "You take the blue pill... the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill…and the red dye will stick to the plaque on your teeth and you’ll see what a shitty job of brushing you’ve been doing.”

The Whataburger app works as a power outage tracker, handy since the electric company doesn't show a map. Still nearly 1.9 million power outages.

They don’t build ‘em like this any more. Due to the airline meltdown I stayed overnight in Chicago at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare. It’s an architectural gem from the early 70’s. Its signature feature is a massive brutalist atrium. Two more fun facts…🧵

This is a really strange and petulant take. It’s as if an alien with a superficial knowledge of a few snippets of American history said “But humans love it when their leaders are shot at! Why has the Trump not been made president yet?”

They dropped the Morse code requirement years ago, so getting your Ham Radio license is easier than ever. You just need to make it a priority.

I approve. The blue wavy lines represent the mighty waterways of Illinois and the Piasa Bird represents whatever it is the Piasa Bird stands for. Have him holding an Italian beef sandwich or a slice of tavern cut pizza and Chicago will get on board.
