bed sores😵‍💫🫣 what ways have you found works well to treat them, help them heal? this patient is already pretty fragile - feeding tube, needs assistance sitting up and getting into wheelchair.

experience w/ hospice care or other end of life methods? prefer at home but hospice is 2x week visits from nurse & aid. mom requires constant care. hospice defines quality of life differently than we think of it too😵‍💫 for us, its more than being bedridden but clean, dry & warm...

Policing and arrest only exacerbates addiction, mental health, homelessness, joblessness, desperation, poverty, & violence. Yet we spend billions & billions on policing arresting people for addiction, mental health, homelessness, joblessness, desperation, poverty, & violence.

I’m a political anthropologist who studies jails and a psychoanalyst and physician who treats their long-term consequences for individuals and communities. Over the last decade, I’ve learned a few things about what incarceration does to public health and community safety. 1/

nuances left out but basically: hospice wants to kick mom out bc she is now not dying enough... skilled nursing facilities dont want her bc she wont "participate" enough. hospitals dont want her bc she is not emegent. we cant afford homecare. takeaway: dont get old😵‍💫

But it’s more than just policy and budgeting: it’s the way we think, talk, and produce media about our neighbors living in abject poverty. If someone is starving, homeless, and mentally decompensating near me, *I* am not in danger, *they* are. We need to make that clear.

About this evening… We marched to call for #CareNotCriminization. We got the boot instead. And a massive police presence that arrested four members of the march security team. Mayor, is this your official response to New Yorkers calling for community investments?

Reminder: The tools that protect us from COVID — masks, air filters, and structural policies like expanded healthcare access — are the tools that we need to protect us from the climate crisis, which is causing a decrease in air quality and increase of disease outbreaks.

Today is a special day in NYC history. On July 14, 1970, Puerto Rican+Black activists—known as the Young Lords—took over Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. They were fed up w/ disinvestment, racism, substandard healthcare. Working class ppl have always galvanized this city!

We’ve had 9 years of police bias training since Michael Brown’s murder. 9 years of body cams, “non-lethal tactics,” laws to shape officer behavior. The result? Last year police killed more people than ever It’s time to dismantle policing and pursue public safety by another road

The NYPD spent $150 Million *extra* last year to catch people who weren't able to afford to pay the subway fare. They owed just $104,000. $150 million could buy free fares (at going rate) for 95,000 poor New Yorkers per year. Instead four people shot, including an officer.
