As we are (rightly) looking at Paul Little's expenses again, a reminder that City of Glasgow College sent him on an 8-week management course at Harvard that cost £50k. That's more than I was ever paid for an entire year of teaching in a college.

What could possibly justify a college principal in Glasgow, claiming £13,000 expenses for a private members club in London, when his own staff are underpaid? Scottish Government, @GraemeDeyMSP, Jenny Gilruth here’s the culture you created when you allowed public spending with impunity.

@GraemeDeyMSP Are they one of the colleges threatening staff and families with impoverishment through deduction of 100% ? 🤔

This is a great thread for my fellow lecturers. Take 10 minutes tonight and work out exactly how much time you're paid for meetings/ prep/ marking and stick to it. This is ASOS. The numbers matter. #FairPay West College Scotland - EIS FELA Branch EISFela @GraemeDeyMSP

Tomorrow (Sat 16th March) marks 600 days since we received our last pay rise (which of course was also late) We work hard. We are professional. Outwith ASOS, we go over and above regularly. Fair pay should be the minimum we receive. EISFela EIS #FightingForFE

Or leaders cover each other’s backs regardless . This might explain why,in Education,it’s near impossible to have a grievance(informal or formal) successfully upheld against a leader/ manager when the processes for investigation are generally overseen by their equals or leaders.

@heatherjcla FE should not be run as a business. It should be community colleges, running courses people want. Plenty of examples of courses cancelled when the student numbers are say 18 required and only 16 enrolled. Terrible guidance to live by. #EducationOverBusiness

The Herald has launched its fourth series of the year today: The State of Scotland’s Colleges. The place colleges hold in society is vital, offering opportunities to Scots of all ages, across a jaw-dropping number of disciplines. heraldscotland.com/news/24284221.…

Educators are not burning out because they need to do better at self-care. Educators are burning out because of how they are being treated, what is being expected of them, low levels of respect, etc. Maybe we wouldn't need as much self-care if we addressed the other issues.

Do any leaders in FE actual care about teaching standards & integrity anymore?I see instances of centre malpractice daily and no one seems to care.Lecturers doing what they want, how they want & when they want-no one seems to see it or want to manage it. #studentsdeservebetter

Anyone else dreading this time of year - when we are told to give students attempt after attempt to get them to pass even when they have not achieved despite numerous attempts already . SQA guidelines are evidently not relevant anymore. Sometimes they are just not ready Qualifications Scotland
