Remnants of Hurricane Ian have brought some unusual birds to Nantucket’s shores. This morning I observed a LEACH’S STORM-PETREL fluttering along at an inland pond 🤯?!

ID help needed! Mottled or Black Duck? Was in Long Island this morning looking for the Mottled Duck. No luck at its normal spot, Kethcam Creek. However, I did spot this duck nearby in Amityville. Light head and dark spot at base of bill.

An unusual sight today - a Sanderling braving the surf and rocks as it joined a flock of Purple Sandpipers feeding along a jetty at Jones Beach.

After waiting all week I finally got to see the 2 rare visitors to New York today. First stopped by the Sims Recycling Facility to see the SWAINSON’S HAWK, then a short trip down to Bush Terminal Piers Park to see the WESTERN MEADOWLARK!

NYC birders I need your guidance. I’m considering joining American Princess Cruise’s 24h pelagic trip in June. Any tips or thoughts to pass along? Seems fun, but also a little intense considering the sleeping arrangements. Thank you in advance!

A Wilson’s Phalarope and a Red-Necked Phalarope continue on the West Pond today at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge NYC. The Red-Necked is the darker and smaller of the two birds at the foreground. Their movements give the appearance of a frantic search for lost keys

Newly formed cracks are visible at JFK Terminal 4 due to the recent New York City area earthquake. Airport personnel were inspecting them and searching for more. Not sure if the cracks are structural or superficial, but they appear to be at a beam.
